Creating a Mars Community, but on Earth?

Numerous projects and organizations are working on the issue of creating human communities in space, especially on Mars.  One of these is the HI-SEAS program, which has created a planetary surface analogue in Hawaii. This means people are living in a dome for several months at a time in an isolated area, pretending that they are on Mars, to practice how life would be like. How awesome is that? There's so many potential applications of Anthropology related to this topic of creating small communities and studying the many ways that they can operate best.

Check out the 2014 TEDGlobal talk given by Angelo Vermeulen for some great information about the HI-SEAS program, what it was like, and some things they have learned. I'll be posting more information about this exciting program in future posts!
